The 10-6 Los Angeles Rams will host the 9-7 Seattle Seahawks at SoFi Stadium on Sunday afternoon in Week 18 of the regular season. Week 18 is not meaningless for Los Angeles because if they lose to Seattle and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win, they will fall to the fourth seed in the NFC and will host the loser of the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions game for the Wild Card. Despite facing significant playoff implications, the Rams will rest some starters.
The Los Angeles Rams will rest their starting quarterback
During his Monday night appearance on the Coach McVay Show, head coach Sean McVay indicated that the plan is to rest some starters for Week 18, including star Pro Bowl quarterback Matthew Stafford.
“Those are always the great questions you ask yourself,” McVay said of possibly resting players, via Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire. “But relative to what’s at risk, what’s at reward in terms of either or, and being able to maybe get some guys that are — you know, the toll that a season takes — get them back, refreshed, rejuvenated. Typically, we’ve erred on the side of leaning a little bit more towards that and I would imagine as we continue to finalize our plans, that’s probably the direction we’ll go.”
During Wednesday’s press conference, McVay confirmed that Stafford will rest and not play this weekend against the Seahawks. He will finish the regular season throwing for 3,762 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 10-6 record.
The Rams revealed their starting quarterback for Week 18
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Sean McVay confirmed that Jimmy Garoppolo will start at quarterback. After serving his two-game suspension, Garoppolo has since then taken over as the backup quarterback for Matthew Stafford, but he has yet to play a single snap this season because Stafford has played every snap at this point. The former fourth-round pick from the 2023 NFL Draft, Stetson Bennett, will serve as the backup.
