The Los Angeles Chargers continue to make cap moves and renegotiate Joey Bosa’s contract to create more space.

According to Over the Cap, Bosa renegotiated his contract with the Chargers in 2024, reducing his salary by $7 million in return for a $15 million guarantee. The move resulted in a gain of $10.5 million in cap space for 2024.
Los Angeles Chargers Cap Woes
The NFL raised its cap to $255.4 per team for the 2024 season, a record increase of over $30 million. The Chargers entered the season about $23 million over the cap.
The Chargers made two salary-cap-related moves Wednesday ahead of the new league year. They released receiver Mike Williams, saving the Chargers $20 million in cap space and putting them in compliance with the 2024 cap. Edge rusher Khalil Mack also agreed to a restructured contract, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
Joey Bosa’s Contract
Joey Bosa is currently the face of the defense for the LA Chargers. He is one of the staples still left on this roster after the numerous moves made to get under their cap number.
Bosa’s contract notes, according to OTC, Joey Bosa signed a five-year contract extension with the Chargers worth $135 million. All contract details come via a report from Pro Football Talk. Bosa’s contract has $78 million fully guaranteed at signing and $102 million overall guarantees. The full guarantee includes a $35 million signing bonus, a $7 million roster bonus, and Bosa’s 2020, 2021, and 2022 base salaries.
If on the roster on the 3rd day of the 2022 league year, Bosa’s $24 million 2023 injury-guaranteed salary will vest to a full guarantee. If on the roster on the 3rd day of the 2024 league year, Bosa will earn a $7 million roster bonus. If he is on the roster on the 3rd day of the 2025 league year, he will earn an $8.36 million roster bonus.
This renegotiated contract gave the Chargers a little more life to add some pieces to help them into 2024.
