The Los Angeles Chargers suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Miami Dolphins on opening weekend.   A late Tyreek Hill touchdown catch propelled the Dolphins to a 36-34 over the Chargers.  To add injury to insult, the Chargers are now facing the reality of being down one of their best playmakers in Week Two.

According to head coach Brandon Staley, running back Austin Ekeler’s status for Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans is uncertain after suffering an ankle injury against the Dolphins. It will take the weekly injury reports to see how Ekeler is doing.

A key component of the Chargers’ offense will be lost if Ekeler is unable to play. Because of Ekeler’s injury in Week 1, backup running back Joshua Kelley played a significant role in the game. If Ekeler sits out, Kelley would be the No. 1 running back, followed by Elijah Dotson and Isaiah Spiller. Ekeler’s absence could also result in additional touches for wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

Either way, it won’t be easy replacing a weapon who recorded over 1,600 yards and 18 total touchdowns last season.  Ekeler has turned himself into one of the best running backs in the NFL and he continued that in Week One of this season.  Ekeler had 164 yards of total offense and one score before he left the game with an ankle injury.
