The Kansas City Chiefs have officially placed the Non-Exclusive Franchise Tag on cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and could begin to look for a trade if they cannot agree to a contract extension. There are going to be teams that are interested in adding him to their roster for the right price. But which teams make the most sense?
L’Jarius Sneed Landing Spot #1: Detroit Lions
One of the biggest weaknesses of the Lions last season was their secondary and they still made the NFC Championship Game. Now being able to acquire Sneed with this young core could be an excellent fit. Lions general manager Brad Holmes emphasized wanting secondary members who can tackle and Sneed has proven to do that as well.
The fit makes sense and it will be interesting to see if these teams discuss a potential package with the Detroit Lions having a lot of cap space with top players on rookie contracts.
L’Jarius Sneed Landing Spot #2: Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles need to improve their secondary from last season if they want to be viewed as serious threats in the NFC. With Darius Slay and James Bradberry looking like they may have lost a step last season, this is one of the team’s glaring weaknesses.
After signing defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, the Eagles need to get as much talent on the roster and general manager Howie Roseman has not been afraid to make trades for known commodities in the past. With the pass rush this team has, getting a strong cornerback may just get them back to the Super Bowl.
L’Jarius Sneed Landing Spot #3: Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins are in an interesting spot after releasing cornerback Xavien Howard and allowing defensive tackle Christian Wilkins to be an unrestricted free agent without the franchise tag. They need to figure out how to improve defensively and having Jalen Ramsey paired with Sneed could be great.
With the explosive offense that the team has, having two top-tier cornerbacks would be a great way for the team to get back to the hype they were able to have at the beginning of last season.
