The Liberty Flames had a season to remember. Even though they got blown out in their bowl game, it is a big deal to represent the Group of 5 schools in the New Year’s Six bowl games. As with many smaller programs, star players often leave via the transfer portal. Star quarterback Kaidon Salter announced today that he will test the portal.

Liberty Flames QB Kaidon Salter Enters Transfer Portal
Under new head coach Jamey Chadwell, Salter thrived. In 2023 he was one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. He threw for 2,876 yards, 32 touchdowns, and six interceptions while running for 1,089 yards and 12 touchdowns. An interesting program to watch will be Auburn as Hugh Freeze was at Liberty when Salter was a freshman. A lot of programs are sure to give Salter a look.
Quarterback Position Is Thinning Out
KJ Jefferson committed to UCF this weekend and Cam Ward announced he will be declaring for the NFL Draft. For teams that were hoping to land a quarterback in the portal, the options are becoming more limited. Salter might be one of the best options left for teams that need a veteran quarterback under center. There will be questions after the Flames were blown out by Oregon but that was not all Salter’s fault. The Oregon offense made a lot of defenses look silly this season.
Where will Kaidon Salter end up? It is another high-profile player that the college football world will be trying to recruit from the portal.
