.It was announced Tuesday that legendary New Orleans Saints wide receiver, will be inducted into the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2022. Colston is one of six standout local sports figures who will be added to the Hall of Fame this year. Each year’s Hall of Fame class is selected by the Greater New Orleans Sports Awards Committee. The committee is comprised of former media members who annually recognize a variety of annual award-winners.
The six-foot-four, 225-pound receiver, was selected by New Orleans in the seventh round (252nd overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Hofstra. Colston spoke on what it meant to him by being selected in the seventh round by the Saints:
“When you get drafted in the seventh round, you’re not really super excited to still be on the board, ” Colston said. “You’re really not super excited to go to a 3-13 team. You know, for me, I was (four picks) from being able to find what I thought would be the best destination to go and try to make a roster as a free agent.”
Colston was a steady force with the Saints on and off the field. According to the Greater New Orleans Hall of Fame, Colston played his entire 10-year NFL career with the Saints. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in receiving yards (9,579) , yards from scrimmage (9,766) , receiving touchdowns, total touchdowns (both 72) and total receptions (711). All 72 of Colston’s touchdowns were parts of connections with QB Drew Brees. Colston was a key contributor on their Super Bowl-winning team in 2009.
Colston had also received honors as a 2019 inductee into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame. The Hofstra product also recieved honors as a Saints All-50th Team selection in 2016.
