On Saturday, the Las Vegas Raiders will face off against the Dallas Cowboys in their second preseason contest. Ahead of their exhibition matchup, Las Vegas will shake up their quarterback room following the addition of Nathan Peterman earlier this week.

Football insider Tisten Kuhn said the Raiders will part ways with quarterback Anthony Brown on Friday. The Raiders will now have four quarterbacks in Saturday’s preseason matchup.

On Friday, the Las Vegas Raiders released veteran quarterback Anthony Brown before the start of the 2024 season. Las Vegas signed Brown to a reserve/future contract at the beginning of the year, but he will be released after one preseason outing.

Brown played in the preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings, going 1-of-3 for 24 yards. He also added five carries for 13 yards. The 26-year-old did not play in the NFL in 2023 but was a member of the Baltimore Ravens during his rookie season in 2022. He made one start, going 22-of-49 for 302 yards and two picks. Brown played collegiately at Boston College and Oregon, compiling 61 touchdowns and 27 interceptions.

Before the release of Anthony Brown, the Las Vegas Raiders inked quarterback Nathan Peterman to their roster following his release from the New Orleans Saints. Peterman played for the Raiders from 2018 to 2021, throwing for 25 yards on five attempts. Peterman will enter his eighth NFL season and owns a 39.4 quarterback rating.

Peterman has also played for the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills. As a rookie in 2017, Peterman set the NFL record for most interceptions, thrown in a first career start with five. His teams are 1-5 with him as the starting quarterback.

Heading into their second preseason tilt, the Raiders remain without a named starter at quarterback. Passers Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell continue to battle for the starting role, with each fresh off solid performance in the preseason opener. Minshew went 6-of-12 for 117 yards and a touchdown strike to wideout DJ Turner. Meanwhile, O’Connell completed 7-of-9 passes for 76 yards.

Last season, Minshew threw for 3,305 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine picks in 17 games with the Indianapolis Colts. His best season came in 2019 as a rookie with the Jacksonville Jaguars, throwing for 3,271 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six picks. As for O’Connell, the Purdue product threw for 12 touchdowns against seven picks in ten starts as a rookie for the Raiders.
