There’s a positive air surrounding the Las Vegas Raiders. After ending the season on a positive note under Antonio Pierce, many in the organization are confident that they will be able to compete in the AFC West.
To hold their ground against the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers, the team has seemingly secured the services of a former NFL head coach who first made noise in 2019.
Kliff Kingsbury offers NFL comeback with Las Vegas Raiders
Kliff Kingsbury kept his head down and waited for his opportunity to return to the NFL ever since the Arizona Cardinals let him go at the end of the 2022 season. He kept himself busy by working with the University of South Carolina, helping Caleb Williams transform into a top NFL prospect.
His work with Williams at the college level was more than enough to convince Pierce and the Raiders to give him a contract/
Mark Anderson and Rob Maddi of Star Tribune wrote about the move in detail:
This is the first major hire for new Raiders coach Antonio Pierce, who had the interim tag removed Jan. 19. Kingsbury will be in charge of trying to turn around a Las Vegas offense that was 27th this season yards per game (289.5) and 23rd in scoring (19.5-point average).
Arizona went 11-6 in 2021 and made the playoffs, but the Cardinals suffered several major injuries the following season and finished 4-13, resulting in Kingsbury’s dismissal. The firing came just 10 months after the Cardinals signed him to a contract extension.
The Las Vegas Raiders won’t be able to pick the quarterback Kingsbury worked with as they will only be picking with the 13th pick. Meanwhile, the USC QB will be drafted first overall.
What does this mean for the Las Vegas Raiders?
This hiring gives the Raiders plenty of room to build their passing game.
The picture is still not clear on who will be Antonio Pierce’s QB1 for 2024 since they still have a couple of weeks before the offseason fully gets underway. However, their quarterback will be getting a good coach who will bring out the best in him.
Klif Kingsbury is known for developing quarterbacks. Under his tutelage, Kyler Murray blossomed into a franchise quarterback who makes the most of his powerful arm. Whichever QB they get in the offseason can rely on Kingsbury to provide a beautiful passing game that will make the most of his and Javante Adams’ abilities.
