After a season that saw a coaching change and a failure to make the playoffs, the Las Vegas Raiders are out to correct their mistakes in the upcoming NFL campaign later this year. The thing is, their running back group doesn’t look like they’re ready to take on the challenge.
The Raiders concluded their 2023-24 NFL season with an 8-9 record, narrowly missing a playoff berth. However, the team demonstrated potential for future success and is now in a prime position to bolster their roster during the offseason.
With substantial cap space and a favorable draft position, the Raiders are well-equipped to infuse fresh talent into their lineup. A key area of focus will be strengthening their defensive edge-rushing capabilities, with Josh Uche from the New England Patriots emerging as a potential target in free agency.
The Raiders’ offseason strategy, including their approach to free agency and the draft, will be crucial for their aspirations to improve upon their recent performance and aim for playoff contention. The team must carefully evaluate all aspects of their roster and allocate resources to address their most pressing needs, striking a balance to create a competitive and well-rounded squad.
As the Raiders navigate this crucial offseason, their decision-making process will set the course for the team’s success in 2024 and beyond. The offseason presents an opportunity for the Raiders to make strategic additions and position themselves as a formidable contender in the NFL.
Las Vegas Raiders’ Running Back Crew Named Among The Worst in NFL Ahead of 2024 Season
Similar to last season, Las Vegas isn’t projected to reach the playoffs in the upcoming 2024 campaign. Adding fuel to that fire is an article by Trevor Sikkema for PFF that ranked the Raiders’ Running Back unit as one of the worst in the NFL.
“It felt like the Raiders were left high and dry after watching Josh Jacobs sign elsewhere. Their backfield state is now some combination of Zamir White, Alexander Mattison and rookie Dylan Laube.
White earned a 70.6 PFF rushing grade last season, while Mattison recorded a 68.4 figure,” Sikkema wrote.
Last season, Las Vegas was in the bottom half of the league when it came to offense by ranking 23rd out of 32 teams. Their defense, on the other hand, was competent by placing ninth in the NFL.
It remains to be seen whether Las Vegas’ RB unit can climb up the rankings as the upcoming season progresses. In any case, the odds are against the Raiders to reach the playoffs next year.
