The consensus around the NFL is the Las Vegas Raiders made the right move by removing the interim tag from now-head coach Antonio Pierce heading into the 2024 season. Pierce, the linebackers coach in Las Vegas entering the 2023 season, took over as the team’s bench boss after his predecessor, Josh McDaniels, received his termination papers in late October. Pierce posted a 5-4 record as the interim head coach with the Raiders, resulting in him entering next fall as the 23rd frontman in team history.
While the details of Pierce’s new contract are yet to be revealed, the former NFL linebacker undoubtedly earned a significant pay increase. However, the financial success may be bittersweet for Pierce, as a substantial portion of his earnings from Las Vegas may never reach his bank account. Named in a bankruptcy case, Pierce could be at the mercy of courts regarding his assets.
Las Vegas Raiders HC Antonio Pierce: Facing Legal Battle in Bankruptcy Court

The struggle to secure a playoff spot in the high-powered AFC isn’t the only battle the Las Vegas Raiders and their head coach, Antonio Pierce, will face this year. On Tuesday, reports surfaced that Pierce and his wife filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the Arizona District of The United States Bankruptcy Court. This legal battle could significantly impact the team’s performance, a situation that can’t help but evoke concern.

Per the filing, Mr. Pierce invested in car dealerships that defaulted on their loans. He was named as a guarantor of judgments = over $28M. Lenders now seek to satisfy judgments from marital assets. pic.twitter.com/Eiw5QRA3VY

Pierce invested in Hyundai Capital America and Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation. Jocelyn Pierce has since asked for an extension of time to file documents, stating, “The Debtor was forced to file quickly and with little preparation to protect her assets and those of the marital community from Mr. Pierce’s judgment creditors.”
Las Vegas Raiders: Looking to Snag First Playoff Win Since 2002

The willpower and loyalty of Las Vegas Raiders fans have been tested over the past two decades. Las Vegas, formerly of Oakland, has just two playoff births during that span, including never winning the AFC West, while going through a laundry list of head coaches. Next fall will mark the first with head coach Antonio Piece at the helm after the Raiders decided to ink him to a deal post-interim tag. Pierce led the AFC West squad to a respectable 5-4 record to close the year. Quarterback Aidan O’Connell, a fourth-round rookie from Purdue, also played well down the stretch. He threw for 2,218 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven picks across ten starts.
The Raiders also added Pro Bowl free agent quarterback Gardner Minshew as completion to O’Connell heading into next year. Minshew registered 3,305 passing yards and 15 touchdowns with the Indianapolis Colts last year. Again, leading the defense will be superstar pass rusher Maxx Crosby. The Eastern Michigan product earned second-team All-Pro honors last year after posting a ludicrous 90-tackle, 14.5-sack campaign. He also led the NFL in TFLs for a second consecutive season.
