The Las Vegas Raiders are securely in quarterback limbo this offseason.
Vegas is selecting outside of the top two picks in this spring’s NFL Draft, likely needing to trade up for the chance to pick either Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. Likewise, it remains to be seen how highly Tom Brady, head coach Pete Carroll, and the Raiders view this free-agent class of quarterbacks, largely headlined by Sam Darnold.
However, there is one other fascinating option for the Raiders this offseason.
Could the Las Vegas Raiders Trade for Kirk Cousins?
The Atlanta Falcons are turning the page to Michael Penix Jr., at quarterback this upcoming season, which could make Kirk Cousins available either via trade or by releasing him.
Pro Football Focus put together a list of each team’s best quarterback option this offseason, including the Raiders adding Cousins.
“With Pete Carroll returning to the NFL as head coach and Chip Kelly running the offense,” John Kosko writes for PFF. “The Raiders will want to establish both success and a clear offensive identity as quickly as possible. Carroll’s philosophy has always centered around a strong run game and effective play-action passing, making Kirk Cousins an ideal fit for the system.
“The Raiders already have a solid pass-blocking offensive line that ranked 15th in PFF’s pass-blocking grades in 2024, and that is an absolute must for Cousins. Combine that with the second-most cap space in the NFL, and Las Vegas has the resources to add receiving weapons and shore up any remaining weaknesses on the line.”
Cousins would be intriguing option for the Raiders, at least in the short-term, especially because of his quick release and veteran stability which could help him thrive playing in Kelly’s system and in an offense that features the likes of tight end Brock Bowers and emerging star receiver Jakobi Meyers.
If Cousins becomes available, the Raiders are a destination that makes a lot of sense.
