The Las Vegas Raiders have a crucial matchup on Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers. With both teams sitting with 5-8 records, this game will likely knock the loser out of serious playoff contention. Considering the stakes are this high, the Las Vegas Raiders could use any advantage that they can get. Well, this betting stat should be a very encouraging sign for them tonight.
NFL Teams Playing After a Shutout
Last week, the Las Vegas Raiders got shut out against the Minnesota Vikings. The final score of that game ended up being 3-0. It is safe to say that the Raiders are going to want to get more points in their next game.
Well, the good news for Las Vegas is that history favors this. How so? According to Bet Labs Sports, teams who have gotten shut out the previous week since 2015 are 29-13-3 against the spread in their next game.
That is a good trend for the Las Vegas Raiders. At the time of writing, they are three-point favorites.
Las Vegas Raiders Offensive Numbers
Admittedly, the Raiders do not have the best offensive numbers. Their running game in particular is an issue, as they average just over 80 rushing yards per game and about 15.5 points per game. However, the Raiders average around 197 passing yards per game.
In their last five games, the Raiders have been led by QB Aidan O’Connell. He has had three touchdown passes and five interceptions in this stretch.
O’Connell also played in the first meeting against the Chargers this season. How did he do then? O’Connell had 238 passing yards and an interception.
Los Angeles Chargers Limping In
The Los Angeles Chargers are dealing with issues of their own. The biggest piece they are missing is QB Justin Herbert. Last week, he suffered an injury to his right index finger. As a result, Herbert is now likely out for the season.
With that in mind, the Chargers now have to rely on QB Easton Stick to carry the torch. He had to come in relief of Herbert during Sunday’s loss against the Denver Broncos. Now, Stick will make his first career start in a game that is crucial for the Chargers’ playoff hopes. You can see why this is an encouraging sign for the Raiders to continue the betting trend mentioned above.
