The Las Vegas Raiders fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler after starting the season 3-5. Las Vegas promoted linebackers coach Antonio Pierce to be the interim head coach and assistant GM Champ Kelly to be the GM. Here’s what went down in the Raiders’ last two seasons.
Jon Gruden stepped down as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders
Jon Gruden stepped down as the head coach on October 11, 2021, after his emails leaked. Rich Bisaccia replaced Gruden for the rest of the season, finishing with a 10-7 record and making it to the playoffs. Many players loved playing for Rich Bisaccia and hoped he would remain the head coach. Bringing back Bisaccia seemed to be the logical decision.
The head coach wasn’t the only decision Mark Davis had to make during the 2022 offseason. Las Vegas fired general manager Mike Mayock after three disappointing seasons.
Las Vegas found their new GM and HC
Mark Davis hired Dave Ziegler first on January 30, 2022. Mark Davis would be responsible for hiring the next head coach instead of Ziegler.
Las Vegas didn’t retain Rich Bisaccia as their head coach and hired Josh McDaniels on January 31, 2022.
Mark Davis must have forgotten what McDaniels did as the Broncos’ head coach during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Denver fired him after Week 13 in the 2010 season, and the team finished with an 11-17 overall record.

The second notable roster move was trading for Davante Adams. Las Vegas traded a 2022 first-round and second-round pick to Green Bay in exchange for Adams, who signed a 5-year, $140 million contract.
The third notable roster move was re-signing Derek Carr to a 3-year, $121.5 million contract extension.
The fourth notable roster move was re-signing Hunter Renfrow to a 2-year, $32 million contract extension.
The last notable roster move was re-signing Darren Waller to a 3-year, $51 million contract extension.

Raiders 2023 season thus far
Las Vegas is having a frustrating start to the 2023 season. Chandler Jones was dealing with a personal situation to start the season. He claimed that the Raiders locked him out of the Raiders’ facility and had to work out at a different gym. Las Vegas released Jones after he was charged with two counts of violating a domestic violence protection order.
Jimmy Garoppolo has been struggling to stay healthy, missing two games with a concussion and a back injury, but manages to lead the league with nine interceptions. The Raiders plan on starting Aidan O’Connell moving forward.
The Raiders failed to trade Hunter Renfrow to the Saints. Renfrow has been struggling ever since the Raiders signed Jakobi Meyers. The Saints didn’t trade for Renfrow because of his contract.
Las Vegas received trade offers for Davante Adams, but they refused them. It will be interesting to see if Davante wants to stay with the Raiders or get traded.
The Josh McDaniels experiment is over. All eyes will be on interim head coach Antonio Pierce.
