ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit has been one of the best in the business for a long time. It’s enjoyable to watch him on College Game Day every Saturday and then listen to him call one of the week’s biggest games.
Even though Herbstreit has been around a while, he has become very popular with many over the past year because he started bringing his best friend, Ben, to every College Game Day and game location he was calling.
Kirk Herbstreit Announces Sad News

Ben is a golden retriever who has taken the hearts of all Americans, but this year, he was sadly diagnosed with cancer.
Even though Ben has been battling cancer, he was still right beside his father, Kirk, on almost every occasion, but on Thursday, Ben lost his fight with the terrible disease.
Herbstreit took to social media to state he had to put his best friend down and wrote.”This is really hard to write but so many of you have loved and cared about Ben that I wanted to let you know. We found out today the cancer had spread throughout Bens organs and there was nothing left we could do-we had to let him go. I’ve had dogs my whole life but Ben was 1 on 1. He was smart-loving-gentle-patient-inquisitive-and welcoming to all. Always a big smile and a soft tail wag. He and I could communicate..he and I understood each other and had each others backs. He was with me more than anyone at home and traveling with me for work. Such an easy going companion. Hard day-but he will live within all of us forever. God please bless his majestic soul and thank you for putting him in my life for the last 10 years-a true blessing. Love you Ben.”

Ben was special, and thanks to Herbstreit for letting us see how great of a dog Ben was, and the entire college football world will miss seeing Ben every weekend right by Kirks’s side.
