The big change was a subject that divided a fan base that normally bleeds red and black in unison. Kirby Smart was announced as the new head coach at Georgia. Replacing a much loved and respected Mark Richt whom was one of the most winningest coaches in SEC history. Fast forward 6 years coming off a national title run Coach Smart is now the highest paid coach in college Football.

The homes were divided on this newcomer coming from Alabama as Nick Sabans defensive coordinator. Many thought it was a mistake and the rest was just curious if he could be as good as Richt. Well after 6 years Smart has built a tradition of top recruiting classes and high skilled play on the field. With a record of 66-15 and 2 playoff appearances ,2 championship appearances, and 1 national title. Now nobody questions was he best for the university, but let’s make sure he’s a Bulldog for a long time. The contract extension Smart signed is a 10 year deal worth a little more than $112 million dollars. Making his salary higher than his old boss Saban whom is around $100 million over 10 years.
Foreseeable future
Now with Smart locked in for the foreseeable future and UGA sending players to the draft like they have the last few years I don’t expect recruiting to slow down any time soon. Which could very well mean national championships becoming the measure for a successful season in Georgia. That’s another article altogether, but I’ll keep you posted with all the latest news coming out of Athens, Georgia and in the meantime check out some of these great articles.
