Like most Giants fans, Kayvon Thibodeaux had an issue with the front office’s treatment of Saquon Barkley last offseason. He made his feelings clear on “7PM in Brooklyn, ” hosted by Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero. Thibodeaux discussed a lot on that podcast, including his take on the NFL’s top QB, but what he had to say about his New York Giants teammates is turning the most heads.
Thibodeaux Says That Saquon Barkley Deserved to Get Paid Before Daniel Jones
By many, Saquon Barkley is considered the face of the Giants franchise these days. Last offseason, he faced free agency for the first time and couldn’t reach a long-term deal with New York. He was eventually franchise-tagged, which many felt was a slap in the face. The two sides still haven’t struck a multi-year deal. Thibodeaux believes that Barkley should’ve been rewarded with a nice contract before this season began.
“Tell you what I’m mad at, and it’s the only thing I’ll say about that. What I’m mad about is that Saquon, because if you look at the game tape, the tape, Saquon was responsible for at least 30 percent of our offensive plays. Talking about the year we won the playoff game. So for me and for the integrity of working together and hard work, and we all believe the same things, I feel like Saquon should have got paid first. That’s what I feel.”
Most people around the NFL would agree with every word that Kayvon Thibodeaux said.
Kayvon Thibodeaux Believes in His Quarterback
Just because Thibodeaux thinks that Barkley deserved the money first doesn’t mean that he has abandoned his quarterback. In very plain terms, Kayvon Thibodeaux said that he believes in Daniel Jones before stating that Saquon Barkley should’ve been paid first. Even after a rough season, Jones seems to have supporters in the locker room. Thibodeaux delved into a lot of the team’s struggles, particularly with health, and Jones was obviously a major factor in 2023 going sideways for Big Blue.
Thibodeaux had a strong sophomore season, so let’s see if he can help right the ship in 2024. With or without Barkley.
