The Kansas City Chiefs have myriad needs and holes to fill if Patrick Mahomes and Co. are going to make it back to the Super Bowl, following a humiliating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
While fortifying the offensive line in front of Mahomes must be general manager Brett Veach and the Chiefs’ top priority, both in free agency as well as throughout the NFL Draft, adding talent across the roster is going to be a must.

Veach and the Chiefs look no further than Jalen Hurts‘ 46-yard dagger to DeVonta Smith to put the Super Bowl on ice to realize that quality depth in the secondary has to be on the Chiefs’ offseason to-do list.
Could the Kansas City Chiefs Reunite with Tyrann Mathieu?

The Chiefs could turn to a familiar face to help rebuild the secondary.
Bleacher Report put together a list of trades that could shape the offseason, including the Chiefs reuniting with All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu via a blockbuster trade with the New Orleans Saints.
“The Chiefs should be interested,” Kristopher Knox writes for B/R. “Mathieu, who played for Kansas City from 2019 to 2021, is already familiar with Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. The Chiefs could be in need of safety depth with Justin Reid scheduled to be a free agent.”
Mathieu would be an affordable option for the Chiefs, set to count just $6.3 million against the cap and would be a potentially dominant veteran presence on a defense in need of it.
Last season, at age 32, Mathieu intercepted three passes while posting 62 total tackles, with one tackle for loss.
Mathieu’s familiarity with the Chiefs’ defense from his three prior seasons in Kansas City could make the Chiefs one of his top desired destinations if the Saints give him any say over potential landing spots and he may wind up being a major upgrade.
