There is no doubt that one of the most controversial moments of the Super Bowl showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers was Travis Kelce’s now-infamous sideline spat with head coach Andy Reid early in the game.
Kelce was seen screaming at his coach and shoving him after a botched touchdown play from the Chiefs. At this point, however, only very few people know what was said between player and coach at that exact moment. Apparently, the audio recording of the heated conversation might never actually surface.
Kansas City Chiefs Blocked Audio of Sideline Argument
In a recent report published by the New York Times, reporter Ryan Glasspiegel reveals that according to his sources, it was actually the Chiefs themselves that prevented NFL Films from airing the said soundbite. Apparently, this may have been at the behest of Reid himself:
“Two people highly plugged into the sports media business told The Post they suspect the Chiefs blocked NFL Films — which captures the mic’d up audio — and ‘Inside the NFL’ from airing the direct Kelce sound bite, with one saying he thought that this edict came from Reid,” Glasspiegel wrote.
Reid and Kelce quickly moved on from the incident and they went on to win their third Super Bowl trophy together a couple of hours later. It is clear that the shouting match is now water under the bridge, and perhaps this is exactly why Reid no longer wants to give the incident more air time than it already has.
“One source told The Post there are jokes among NFL Films crews that there is a vault that contains all the sensitive content from over the years that has never made it to TV,” Glasspiegel wrote.
