The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing to do something no team in NFL history has ever done: win the Super Bowl three times in a row. Before they start their second consecutive title defense, though, they took a night to bask in the glory of winning it all again just one more time. On Friday night, Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the rest of the team gathered together for their Super Bowl ring ceremony.

For many of the players, this was their third ring ceremony as Kansas City also won the Super Bowl back in 2019. For Coach Reid, it was his fourth (having won a Super Bowl ring when he was on the Green Bay Packers coaching staff in 1996).
Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker Posts 1-Word Message with Wife at Super Bowl Ring Ceremony
One of the players that were given their third Super Bowl ring was Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker. Earlier this offseason, Butker made controversial remarks regarding his ideal role for women in society, praising his wife for being a “homemaker,” which he referred to as the highest calling a woman can achieve.
During the ring ceremony, Butker made the following post on Instagram:

As seen above, his caption for the photo was one word: “Grateful.”
During his speech, Butker said of his wife (and women):
“For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.
“How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.
“I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother. I’m on the stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation.
“I’m beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”
The photo Butker shared of his wife is the first photo of her he has shared since his speech. He had previously deleted all images of her from his social media profiles. This was also his first social media post since his speech.
Kansas City Chiefs Players Supported Harrison Butker, but Distanced Themselves from His Message
Butker’s comments, obviously, caused quite the stir online and in the media. Several celebrities and fans took to social media to denounce Butker’s message and to state their own beliefs that whatever goals they set out to achieve outside of the home are just as important.
On his New Heights podcast, Travis Kelce said of Butker:
“When it comes down to his views and what he said at the [Benedictine College] commencement speech, you know, those are his. I can’t say I agree with the majority of it — or, just about any of it outside of just him loving his family and his kids.
“And I don’t think that I should judge him by his views — especially his religious views of how to go about life. That’s just not who I am.”

Find something new to talk about, Robin. This is old news. Butker has his own opinions and is entitled to them. There are more interesting stories to write about.
Thanks for writing a concise and fair piece about Harrison Butker. A few days after the uproar I read a short article about how Patrick Mahomes’ mother was abandoned by her husband, a MLB pitcher, who left her with 3 small children and no means of support. I don’t recall any outrage–most people don’t even know that. None of us truly know those family details; however, if I had to choose one of those histories I would choose Catholic family values. I still don’t understand the vitriol expressed.
