The Kansas City Chiefs are counting on more from Kadarius Toney this year. After acquiring him midseason in 2022, the team is hoping with a full offseason he can be fully integrated into the offense. The team lost JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman in free agency and many are questioning whether the wide receiver room is good enough. Patrick Mahomes is great but at some point, it matters who you are throwing to. Toney suffered an injury in camp which raises some concerns for the defending champs.
Kansas City Chiefs Kadarius Toney Tweaks Knee In Practice
The injury happened while he was fielding kicks early in practice. He did not participate the rest of the day out of an abundance of caution. Toney has dealt with knee issues his entire career which was one of the reasons the New York Giants were so quick to move on from him. While this could be nothing, the fact that the knee is already something to watch is not a good sign if you are a Chiefs fan. It also raises some concerns about the group as a whole.
Very Thin At Wide Receiver
If you were to tell me that Toney, Skyy Moore, and Travis Kelce were to play the entire season, I would say the Chiefs would be fine. However, once one of those players, especially Kelce, goes down, the offense feels like a house of cards. As I said before, Mahomes is phenomenal but at some point, it matters who is on the field. If Toney struggles with a knee injury throughout camp and into the season, more pressure will be put on players like Moore to step into a number-one receiver role.
The hope for the Kansas City Chiefs is that the injury is not serious. The team is hoping for a big year out of Kadarius Toney but the injury bug is already showing its face.
