Kansas City Chiefs: JJ Watt Blasts Taylor Swift Hate Amid NFL Hype

JJ Watt doesn’t understand the hate that Taylor Swift is receiving amid the attention the NFL is giving her during Kansas City Chiefs games.

The former NFL star came to the defense of Swift in a recent interview, sharing his stance why the hate has no merits and is unacceptable at all.

J.J. Watt of the Arizona Cardinals walks off the field on September 18, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In an interview with US Magazine, Watt shared his confusion over the unnecessary disrespect and insults that Swift is getting.

Ever since her relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was publicized, Swift has gotten more attention towards herself. When she started attending Kansas City games as well, the negative buzz only amplified.

With NFL taking advantage of her popularity, often showing her in broadcasts cheering for her partner, several sports fans couldn’t help but get annoyed of it. Several NFL aficionados pointed out that they only want to watch the game and couldn’t care less about Swift.

Considering that the Chiefs are heading to the Super Bowl, there are now high expectations that Swift will be given a lot of airtime once again. Of course the idea has frustrated a lot of NFL faithful.

Watt, however, doesn’t see any issue with it. For one, it’s normal for celebrities to attend games and be given some attention. Furthermore, Swift isn’t any other celebrity simply watching the game. She’s there to cheer for her boyfriend, which is something that should be celebrated instead of hated according to Watt.

“I think it’s great. I can’t understand why people are so upset about it. I mean, they show celebrities at games all the time. Don’t act like we don’t show male celebrities at games all the time. I don’t really understand why it’s caused such an uproar,” Watt said.

“I mean, she’s literally there supporting her significant other, and that’s what you should do as a significant other. I think it should be nothing but celebrated,” Watt says. “I think that it’s not her fault they put the camera on her, just it is what it is.”

JJ Watt certainly couldn’t have said it any better. Besides, it’s not as if it’s Taylor Swift’s fault she’s getting that much attention. The NFL is focusing on her, knowing full well that her popularity will help in promoting the league.

Swift is there to cheer for Kelce and nothing else. Unfortunately for her, being a celebrity comes with its disadvantages.

    NFL Benefiting From Taylor Swift

Sure enough, despite the hate towards the league hyping up Swift, the NFL has benefited greatly from it.

According to a recent report, the league has gotten over $330 million worth of brand value from their frequent broadcasts of Taylor Swift attending Kansas City Chiefs games.

The Chiefs’ AFC Championship against the Baltimore Ravens also generated a new viewership record of over 55 million, and it’s safe to assume that Swift’s attendance and ability to attract non-sports fans played a role in it.

With that said, fans shouldn’t expect the NFL to stop the Swift hype any time soon.
