The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes are headed to their fourth Super Bowl appearance in the last five years. The Chiefs have experienced rare success ever since Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback.
Super Bowl LVIII (58) will feature a rematch from four years ago in which the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20. However, one incident during the playoffs that involved Patrick Mahomes has forced the NFL to launch an investigation.
The NFL Launches Investigation After Incident Involving Kansas City Chiefs’ Quarterback Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes was dealing with a pretty concerning situation after a hit to his head resulted in a broken helmet during the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. The NFL is investigating the incident as a result.
According to NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Miller, the NFL has possession of the broken helmet and is investigating what caused it to break:
“Obviously the conditions were extreme and may have contributed to the potential failure in that case,” Miller said according to Pro Football Talk. “We want to know how the helmets perform not just in optimal situations but in extreme situations.
“It happens so seldom, and we’re grateful for that,” Miller said. “The work the manufacturers have done to create better and better helmets with each succeeding helmet is impressive.”
It will be interesting to see what results the NFL comes to with the investigation and if there are any league-wide changes made. Here is a video of Mahomes’ helmet breaking:

Temp. + hit, simple100 percent
WOW! But there was no investigations when Brady led the Patriots to 11 consecutive from 2009 to 2019), 13 AFC Championship …
Bull… he was investigated twice. where you been
Something that rc hobbyists know is that plastics get brittle in the cold. May be it had to do with that.
If any thing it should have been targeting..I dont know of any other proof !!
I wanna know why mahomes was allowed to lower his head and hit the defending opponent head on… I thought helmet to helmet is not allowed…. maybe just at for mahomes it is…
He was carrying the ball… dummy.
Lowering the crown of the head is illegal on both sides of the ball.
Yes. The helmet was altered to install a transmitter to relay signals to his linemen. On Sunday pre pre game show they showed a Chief manager installing some object into a helmet that looked like a sensor.
What a waste of money. You’d have to be a complete idiot to not know the temperatures plus a hit is what caused it. Just more drama for nothing.
Launch an investigation into the referees instead. Convenient how a ref notorious for giving the penalty advantage to road teams was assigned to a chiefs road game.
If you watch the last 4 games with the Chiefs, after a bad play, they would come to the sideline and slam their helmet to the ground.
This is not difficult to understand.
I would suggest the team enter an anger management program.
