Kansas City Chiefs fans reacted to the team’s president going on record threatening residents of Jackson County. The team has been in Kansas City since 1963. Before 1963, the franchise operated from 1960-62 as the Dallas Texans.
They could be on the move again.
The Kansas City Chiefs want citizens to pay higher taxes
As previously discussed on GH, Chiefs President Mark Donovan told Kevin Holms of KSHB that the Chiefs would consider moving from Kansas City if Jackson County didn’t vote for an extension of a 3/8-cent sales tax through 2064. They want to use public funds to pay for upgrades to their private enterprise’s infrastructure:
“The Chiefs want to use money from the sales tax to make renovations at Arrowhead Stadium and to build a new ballpark for the Kansas City Royals. Holmes interviewed Chiefs President Mark Donovan about asking taxpayers to foot the bill for the Chiefs’ and Royals’ projects.
Donovan said if voters didn’t continue to impose the tax burden on themselves or future generations who will have to pay the tax until 2064, the Chiefs would explore options to move from Jackson County.
“I can’t answer that for the Royals,” Donovan said. “I just know for us, the Chiefs, we would just have to look at all our options.”
Chiefs fans react to the threat
Fans took to social media to respond to the Chiefs’ demands Jackson County citizens vote for a continuation of taxes for four more decades. Here is a small sample of some of the responses.
So the Kansas City chiefs get something like 0.038 of a penny per household in property tax in that area that's set to expire here soon. But they want it extended to 2060 or they move https://t.co/NOCWshrUhY it just me or is anyone else saying take it from the overpd players 🤔🙄

Seems most folks see this as a Royals-only tax. It's also for your Kansas City Chiefs facilities and the future upgrades to Arrowhead. I suppose if y'all just want them to move to Kansas you can vote no. Go buy a Lambo with the 3/8% tax $ you're saving.

Will the Kansas City Chiefs move, and become the Salt Lake City Chiefs? Ya baby

Billionaires suck 😆

The Islanders and a couple of other teams proved you can build an amazing facility with private investors and no need of the public building it. But as usual, these billionaires need their welfare. Funny how this comes just after the Super Bowl.

Imagine wanting your team to leave because they want an extension on a tax you’ve been paying …you not KC fr

I no longer live in KC so I try to stay out of the Apr 2 voting drama but this is the biggest question I have. I get not liking the location or plans but the actual 3/8 of a cent sales tax? Seriously? It's not a new tax🤷🏻♂️ https://t.co/wIgQN1MdkT

It’s not higher taxes just a continuation of the existing 3/8 o/o tax. In the last 7 years the Chiefs has made KC more in $ than the 40 year extension will generate in the entire 40 year tax. The level of Civic Pride is beyond mear $’s. It’s off the charts. Vote yes
The tax is set to expire. Therefore, citizens are being asked to pay for more taxes.
Make a list of the people or organizations who “made so much money in the last 7 years”, then go tax those entities. It hasn’t made me a single nickel.
Who didn’t see this coming, after the Chiefs agreed to pay for Britt Reid’s DWI damages to the people that he injured, when he crashed into them, doing 83 mph, while intoxicated?
Clearly the HUNTS should pay for it. If I had a business , could I get a tax increase from the people of KC.MO to help me pay for it? They should be thankful for the support of their loyal fans. Billionaires are blood suckers. And to think we the people made them rich. !!!!!
Let the Hunt family pay . We’re strapped for cash after the pandemic. Stop sucking the blood out of poor people . Move !
Other owners and stadiums are being built without taxpayer money why can’t they do it. Jackson county just got through raping the I r tax payers , you are not even giving us time to pull our pants back up!!!
I agree with the concept of ownership paying their own way, we as small business owners have to pay ours. Love the Chiefs from Thomas days but if necessary for the well being of KC dwellers see them Chiefs somewhere else. Ownership is just following the billions. So sad
The poor Hunt family. MOVE THEN
Donovan and Clark Hunt should pay the tax. Why put us in a position to be the blame if it is voted down?
Just not the right approach
Yeah it’s like anything in mind the rich get richer and the poor get poor and some of the richest people are the cheapest people and I like football and I like this and I love when the Super Bowl but if we hadn’t been winning Super Bowls nothing would have changed they almost like it’s like a threat and you know what God’s more important than any football game so I’d rather honor God and I’m not going to chase this team if they want to turn their back on Kansas City that’s them they can take Patrick Mahomes in the Kansas City Chiefs and move if that’s your ethics I don’t want to have anything to do with it anyway
I don’t like threats.. and that’s exactly what it is. Increase the price on tickets and make those who actually go to the games pay for it. They could also require a higher price from the stations and advertisers. I will vote no mainly because of Clark’s threats!
So we pay to fix the parking lot then they increase the price to park the that’s a double whammy
Bye! Then GTFO and Move!
