The Kansas City Chiefs are nearly two weeks removed from their controversial 20-17 loss against the Buffalo Bills. However, that hasn’t stopped the media from talking about it, specifically the fallout of Kadarius Toney’s offensive offside penalty that negated the potential game-winning touchdown. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid got slapped with hefty fines for their comments regarding the penalty, and when pressed about it Thursday, Reid had quite the response.
Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid: Response to Lofty Fine
When asked about his $100,000 fine stemming from his comments regarding his team’s Week 14 loss, Reid said, You take that coal and make diamonds out of it.”
The NFL and Roger Goodell charged Reid with a monetary penalty for violating league rules prohibiting public criticism of officials. Reid did not hold back in his postgame presser in Week 14, saying the late-game penalty was “elementary school stuff” and “embarrassing.”
Trailing 20-17, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with star tight end Travis Kelce for a substantial gain. However, Kelce flipped the ball to wideout Kadarius Toney, who in turn took the ball 25 yards to the endzone. Unfortunately, the referees negated the play, calling Toney for an offensive offside penalty. Kansas City failed to gain another year, turning the ball over on downs.
Chiefs: Get Back on Track in Week 15
The Chiefs entered last Sunday as losers of three of their previous four but took down the lowly New England Patriots on the road, 27-17. Patrick Mahomes threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns but also tossed two interceptions. However, rookie wideout Rashee Rice continued to impress, catching nine passes for 91 yards and a score. Additionally, fill-in running back Clyde Edwatds-Helaire, who earned the start for the injured Isiah Pacheco, tallied 101 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on 17 touches.
