After the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl 58, the Bill Belichick-Tom Brady comparisons for Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes has naturally been a major talking point. For one sports commentator, however, there’s already no debate on who’s better.
Speaking on his podcast, veteran analyst Colin Cowherd didn’t hold back in claiming that Reid and Mahomes have already surpassed Belichick and Brady.
Kansas City Chiefs’ Dominance With Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes
When making his case for Reid and Mahomes, Cowherd emphasized that Belichick’s success as a coach has been “overwhelmingly tied” with Brady. That has been a common argument for many when discussing Belichick’s legacy, but after Reid’s latest win, the talks about it have only intensified.
Cowherd added that Mahomes is the “greatest quarterback” he has ever seen, though he made sure to give Brady his flowers and how the two are similar when it comes to terrorizing opponents.
“I think Mahomes is the best quarterback I’ve ever seen. I think Reid is the best coach I’ve ever seen,” Cowher said, per The Volume.
“I think you look at Andy Reid’s coaching tree, his ability to adapt, win with multiple quarterbacks, multiple coordinators. I think Andy’s the best football coach since Bill Walsh.

It’s not hard to see where Cowherd is coming from. Reid has now won three Super Bowls with Mahomes and the Chiefs, though before that, he was already able to guide the Philadelphia Eagles to the NFC Championship–albeit losing to Belichick and the Patriots in the Super Bowl.
As for Belichick, his inability to win and even help the Patriots contend in the post-Tom Brady era will always be a major stain when discussing his legacy.
For Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs Coach Andy Reid is the GOAT
For what it’s worth, Patrick Mahomes himself has no doubt in his mind the Andy Reid is one of the best, if not the greatest coach of all time.
While he might be bias considering Reid is the coach who has helped him thrive with the Kansas City Chiefs, there’s no denying that the veteran coach has played a huge role in transforming the team to perennial Super Bowl contenders.
“He’s one of the best coaches of all time. I believe he’s the best coach of all time,” Mahomes said of Reid following their Super Bowl 58 win, via NFL on CBS.
“I know he doesn’t have the trophies yet, and I have a lot of respect for some of those great coaches. But the way he’s able to navigate every single team he has and continue to have success no matter where he’s at.”
In terms of Super Bowl rings, Reid certainly has a ton more work to do in order to catch up with his other legendary peers. But when it comes to overall success and what he has done so far in his career, a case could be made for his coaching GOAT status for sure.
