Amari Cooper’s Challenges in Cleveland
Amari Cooper is currently dealing with one of the worst passing offenses in football. Per NFLSavant.com, despite earning 26.8% of the Browns’ target share for a total of 40 targets through five weeks, Cooper has not put up the numbers that Browns fans and Fantasy Football managers are accustomed to.
Deshaun Watson is currently ranked, per ESPN.com, 24th in passing yards with 1,020, 27th in completion percentage with 61%, and 25th in passing touchdowns with five. No matter how talented of a receiver Amari Cooper is, without a competent quarterback to get him the ball, he is incapable of performing at the level that he and we want him to perform.
Kansas City Chiefs Crater at Receiver
As bad as Deshaun Watson and the Browns’ passing offense has been, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t been much better. Mahomes is still ranked in the top 10; they’re seventh in completion percentage with 69.4%. But his total yards and touchdowns are uncharacteristically low, 16th and 19th respectively.
Since the Chiefs lost their top two offensive weapons, Pacheco in Week 2 and Rice in Week 4, they put up 17 and 26 total points in back-to-back games and Mahomes has one touchdown and two interceptions in those games. The Chiefs are desperate for offensive weapons to supplement their stout defense and attempt to win yet another Super Bowl.
Cooper is the Key
Amari Cooper is still a talented receiver who can be the alpha in an offense. He is earning the 8th most targets in the NFL, proving he is capable enough to beat defenses, get open, and make plays. However, he doesn’t have a quarterback who can get him the ball. Mahomes, on the other hand, is the best quarterback on the planet but doesn’t have an explosive player to who to throw. Sending Cooper to Kansas City is a win-win for both teams and key players. Plus, your fantasy team with Mahomes or Cooper would benefit as well.
