The Kansas City Chiefs were able to come away with a 26-25 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon despite numerous mistakes on both sides of the ball. Of course, kicker Harrison Butker was able kick the game-winning field goal after a controversial defensive pass interference call that put the Chiefs into field goal range in the final seconds of the game.
Unfortunately, that play was not the only one of consequence went down in the game’s final seconds. Kansas City running back Isiah Pacheco had to be taken off the field due to a leg injury, and initial tests were not promising.
Even worse news came this morning.
Kansas City Chiefs Running Back Isiah Pacheco Has a Fractured Fibula
Early Monday morning, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Pacheco has suffered a fractured fibula and will miss several weeks of the 2024 regular season:
#Chiefs star RB Isiah Pacheco, who left the stadium in a walking boot and crutches, fractured his fibula based on initial tests, sources say.
More information coming to determine severity and associated damage, but Pacheco is set to miss real time. pic.twitter.com/9xA4hOsMyE

As Rapoport notes, Pacheco left the locker room on crutches and wearing a walking boot. The team still needs to do additional tests to determine the severity of the fracture and exactly how long he could be out.
Pacheco had 19 carries for 90 yards in the win over Cincinnati on Sunday.
The loss of Pacheco is certainly a major blow to the Chiefs, who lost Hollywood Brown for the year to season-ending shoulder surgery.
What Will the Kansas City Chiefs Do at Running Back without Isiah Pacheco?
The other two running backs that on the Chiefs depth chart are Samaje Perine and Carson Steele. Perine did not get any carries against the Bengals while Steele had seven carries for 24 yards.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire is on the non-football injury list, battling PTSD. A report in Sporting News details the 2019 incident that may have contributed Edwards-Helaire’s struggles with the disorder:
“Edwards-Helaire and then-LSU teammate Jared Small were attempting to sell an electronic item when an 18-year-old man tried to rob them at gunpoint. One of the two players fatally shot the man, Kobe Johnson. The police did not identify which player, and a Baton Rouge prosecutor argued the players ‘responded with justifiable force’ to the threat.”
There is no timetable for his return to the field.
