Scrooge is making a move on NFL games this Christmas, and the same passionate fanbase that was irked by the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins Wild Card game being put behind a paywall is not taking this news lightly.
Fans didn’t like the Kansas City Chiefs/Dolphins Peacock game
Paywalls are gradually becoming a norm for more games on the league’s calendar each season. Amazon has Thursday Night Football. Peacock took an AFC Wild Card game–which many fans vowed to boycott as the Chiefs defeated the Dolphins. Now, Netflix could potentially be taking both Christmas Day games.
Netflix is attempting to broadcast two Christmas Day games
According to John Ourland With Puck, the league has delayed their schedule release as they finalize a deal with Netflix to broadcast two games:
“earlier this week, the league enigmatically delayed its schedule release to May 15 without offering a reason. Now, of course, we know why: The league’s top executives have been in the middle of a high-stakes negotiation with Netflix over its planned Christmas Day games.
And now it looks like Netflix will wind up carrying the two NFL games scheduled for December 25, per a bevy of sources. Yes, yes, yes, this could all fall apart and all the usual caveats—nothing has been signed yet, and the two sides still have to clear some hurdles before any deal is announced. But Netflix’s emergence as a bidder—and likely winner—is one of the main reasons behind the schedule delay.
These types of deals are coming at the same time owners of teams are asking for taxpayer funds to build stadiums. Fans and citizens are being nickel-and-dimed by the league.
NFL fans are upset with the news of Netflix getting games
Fans took to social media to complain about the league’s giving more games to streaming services behind a paywall. Here are the best reactions of fans reacting to the league’s attempt to make a deal with Netflix.
That’s really sad for all the NFL fans who love Xmas day football but don’t have Netflix. And yes, there are people who don’t have access or money to sign up for the subscription service 😕

The NFL and football in general has peaked in this country. Greed has brought it down. Greed will also kill college football.

Just one more streaming service. @NFL if you have all these services. It's like having direct TVs best package in the 2000s. $300 a month for everything. Good job America. It's is the reason I don't get to go to games because I currently pay for 4 services to many myself.

Well that’s two games I won’t watch.

We pay for the NFL package on @YouTubeTV which they advertise that we can watch every out of market game. I guess that’s just on Sundays
