After Jevon Holland agreed to terms with the New York Giants, Justin Simmons becomes the premier and likely most coveted free agent safety available on the market.
Simmons, 31, remains a productive player and potentially dominant force on the back end of a defense, after producing 62 tackles with two interceptions last season with the Atlanta Falcons.
As the market continues to develop, Simmons opened up about what might be an ideal destination, the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
“Having the chance to go to Philly, reunite with Vic Fangio and [Parker],” Simmons said, during a recent appearance on the ‘Talkin’ Ball with Pat Leonard’ Podcast. “They’re high on the list.”
Philadelphia now has a need at safety, after trading stalwart C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans, and pairing Simmons with Fangio could be an ideal fit for everyone involved.

“Having a chance to reunite with Vic, and their defensive backs coach, Christian Parker” Simmons said during a recent appearance on the ‘Talkin’ Ball with Pat Leonard. “I worked with him the last, maybe four years with Denver. He was a huge piece, obviously, there’s a lot of rotating coaches and defensive coordinators, he was a huge piece of the stability, year in and year out. The terminology, the practices, there’s a lot of familiarity with him.
“There’s a lot of good things about Philly. I think their offense is clearly one of the most talented in the league, the offensive line is unbelievable, but what the defense did last season to win that Super Bowl, was crazy. Watching the leadership from top down is one of the best in the league.”
The Eagles could turn the page to second-year safety Sydney Brown to replace Gardner-Johnson, but, if general manager Howie Roseman is looking for a veteran to backstop the secondary, Simmons is a fascinating target with significant upside to watch for Philadelphia.
