The Buffalo Bills didn’t get the result they hoped for last week when they traveled to Los Angeles to take on the Rams in a high-scoring thriller.
Buffalo went down to the wire but couldn’t pull out the win, losing 44-42. The game’s most significant story is the performance of Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who put out on a show that Hollywood screenwriters couldn’t even come up with.
Josh Allen’s Magical Day In The City Of Stars
The 28-year-old quarterback was lights out on Sunday, throwing for 342 yards and three scores while picking up 82 yards on the ground while finding the endzone three times.
Allen was a one-man wrecking crew, and his six total touchdowns helped break the NFL record for the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for three and rush to three touchdowns in a regular season game.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Otto Graham also achieved this record in 1954, but it happened in the championship game against the Detroit Lions.
The seventh-year quarterback was already leading the MVP race. Still, his magical performances last weekend now made him the heavy favorite to be the first Bills player to bring home the award since running back Thurman Thomas did in 1991.
Josh Allen MVP Odds Skyrocket
Even though the Bills suffered their third-season loss and ended their seven-game winning streak, Allen became a -400 favorite to win the NFL MVP, according to covers.com.
The next favored player to win the award is Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who now sits at +450 odds and is leading the NFL with 1,623 rushing yards while also running in 11 touchdowns. He is a significant reason the Eagles have an 11-2 record, tied for the second-best in the NFC.
Allen has another chance this weekend to add to his MVP resume by going up against the best team in the NFL, the Detroit Lions; if the 6-foot-5 quarterback can put up another outstanding performance, he should start to dust off a shelf in his house where he can put his MVP trophy.
While winning MVP would be an excellent accomplishment for Allen, the ultimate goal is to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy on the night of February 9th.
