Jonnu Smith, tight end for the Pittsburgh Steelers, lately appeared on Terron Armstead’s podcast, discussing his shocking trade from the Dolphins. In what seems to be the football news of the week, the Miami Dolphins parceled off cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers in return for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.
In his podcast appearance, Smith confessed that the move definitely came as a major shock to him, especially since he had planned to play for the Dolphins until the end of his career in the National Football League.
“I didn’t foresee this happening with how the season went for me individually. I had aspirations of ending my career in Miami with it basically being home for me and my children, my family. But I understand the business side of it, and it didn’t work out. I’m grateful. I got no ill feelings towards Miami or nobody in the organization.” Jonnu Smith spoke about the recent trade from the Miami Dolphins to the Pittsburgh Steelers in his latest appearance on Terron Armstead’s podcast.
Jonnu Smith’s trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers has brought about mixed reactions from various NFL analysts and football experts. Smith himself has been facing a depleting performance over the last few years and his future numbers for the Steelers is being questioned. In the 2024 NFL season, Smith managed 88 receptions with only eight touchdowns for the Dolphins.

Jonnu Smith’s Replacement In Miami Raises Suspicions
Meanwhile, Jonnu Smith has already been replaced in the Miami Dolphins roster. According to recent reports, Smith has been replaced by Darren Waller, who came out of retirement recently. Waller last played for the New York Giants and announced his retirement in 2023 after a health scare. After a medical emergency, Waller decided to pursue a music career.

After taking a break to focus on himself and his health, the tight end recently reached out to the Giants, remarking that he is coming out of retirement. Much to everyone’s surprise, the Giants traded Smith off to Dolphins who gladly took him in as a replacement for Jonnu Smith.

The Miami Dolphins replacing Jonnu Smith with Darren Waller has brought out pretty interesting reactions with most of them joking about the team investing in a retired player. However, the team certainly seems pretty confident of their decision to play Waller instead of Smith in the upcoming NFL season.
