Wide Receiver John Metchie will be a part of the Texan’s offseason program according to Head Coach DeMeco Ryans.
Metchie was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia in July 2022. Metchie missed his rookie season and had to recover from his diagnosis.
Ryans said, “We’ll see John get involved with our offseason program. And with John, as with every other player, we’re going to take it one day at a time and see where he can grow and where he can be when the time comes.”
Metchie will have a significant role in Houston’s offense. Houston lost Brandin Cooks during free agency and signed Robert Woods and Noah Brown. Last season Houston’s offense ranked 31st in the NFL. Houston’s offense averaged 283.5 yards per game and scored 17 points per game.
Metchie has faced other challenges in his young football career. Metchie tore his ACL in the 2021 SEC Championship game.
Metchie had a fantastic collegiate career at Alabama. Metchie caught 155 passes, recorded 2,081 receiving yards and scored 14 touchdowns.
