“You Don’t Wait Till It Becomes A Problem”: Joe Milton III Patriots Trade Gets Fiesty Reaction From 3x Super Bowl Champ

Joe Milton III was traded by the New England Patriots after just one season with the team. In his absence, Drake Maye will have much bigger responsibilities and this was recently discussed by Devin McCourty on the ‘Up & Adams’ show.

McCourty addressed rumors that the team is trying to ‘baby’ Drake Maye, the former New England safety does not believe this to be true. Quarterback Joe Milton III was selected by the Patriots as the 193rd pick in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft, and threw for 241 yards in his rookie year, scoring a single touchdown for the team.

“I don’t think they’re babying Drake May. I think they’re trying to build a good football team. So if you have a guy who has talent, and he’s a backup. And he wants to be a starter and that you think it might be a problem, you don’t wait till it becomes a problem. You move on. So I honestly think they probably would have wanted to keep him because you look at Jimmy Garoppolo sitting behind Tom Brady, sits there, you trade him, you get great value in developing the guy. I’m sure Josh McDaniels would have loved to develop Joe Milton, see what he turns into. If Drake may becomes your guy, you trade him. If not, you put Joe in there. But they avoided, I think, what could end up being an issue down the line.” Devin McCourty said on ‘Up & Adams’.

Joe Milton’s former teammate, Drake Maye was selected by the New England Patriots as the third pick in the very first round of the 2024 NFL draft. In his first year with the team, Maye impressed with 2,276 passing yards, scoring 15 touchdowns for the team, while managing ten interceptions.

Joe Milton III Talks About His Dallas Teammate, Dak Prescott

According to a recent NBC report, Joe Milton III had some pretty terrific things to say about Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott. Milton will be the backup quarterback for the Cowboys along with Prescott, and will hope to have some more playing time in the 2025 NFL season.

Last year, Milton played only one game with the New England Patriots, and is surely eager to show off his signal-calling skills in the upcoming season. Milton heaped praise on Prescott, highlighting the quarterback’s energy. Milton went on to remark that he hopes to learn from Prescott and compete with him.
