The Dallas Cowboys have acquired quarterback Joe Milton from the New England Patriots. It’s hard to say that Milton had a great run last season. The QB was kept out for most of the season after making only one start. The Patriots gave him the field only against the Buffalo Bills despite being drafted in the sixth round in 2024.
Drake Maye was a threat to Milton’s position with the Patriots. It made sense for Milton to part ways, especially since he was not given preference. Milton was keen on being a starting quarterback, but his future was obscure.
Recently, Mass Live reporter Karen Guregian wrote that Joe Milton fancied himself a starter, but he was not given the opportunity to prove himself.
“Based on intel gathered from sources during the week, Milton fancied himself a starter. He didn’t see himself being given a legitimate chance to compete with Drake Maye,” Guregian wrote.
Many were surprised when the Patriots traded Milton in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick. It’s hard for Milton to prove his worth in just one game. It’s safe to say that the Patriots preferred Maye and never really gave Milton more playing time.

Joe Milton Playing For The Patriots Caused Uncomfortable Feelings Between Drake Maye
Joe Milton played for just one game, but it brought trouble to the locker room. Maye was unhappy about Milton playing their week 18 game. Maye left the locker room and refused to speak to reporters. Surprisingly, Maye family was also unhappy about the way things panned out.

Maye never wanted to give up his position with Jon Milton, even for one game. A report made Maye’s stance clear after Milton played against the Bills.
“Indeed, a league source said last month at the NFL Combine that Maye’s family was not thrilled when Milton was drafted. Maye also didn’t look too pleased about giving up the Week 18 game to Milton, leaving the locker room without speaking to reporters and then skipping locker room cleanout day,” the report read.

The Patriots head coach hinted that Milton could be on the move. He also mentioned that Milton did everything he could and worked hard for the team. The Patriots have made their decision to move on from Milton.
Now that Maye has what he wanted, he must deliver for his team. As for Milton, he must start fresh with his new team, which seems to be more promising.
