Former NFL star J.J. Watt shares his thoughts on Patrick Mahomes’ controversial penalties against the Texans. Here’s all you need to know.
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a big win against the Houston Texans. The Chiefs have progressed to the NFL Conference Championship to face off against the Buffalo Bills. However, Mahomes received a fair amount of controversy after their success.
Several fans, broadcasters, and NFL insiders feel that Mahomes played a crucial role in the referee’s decision. Many believe that the referees protect Mahomes, and the Chiefs star persuades them to make decisions.

Mahomes drew multiple penalties, notably against Will Anderson Jr. He was also in the middle of a debate when he took a dive after being pushed near the sideline. Patrick Mahomes addressed the incident after the game, saying he probably should not have done that. The Chiefs have moved on, but NFL legend J.J. Watts said Mahomes knows how to take advantage.

“The two calls everybody’s talking about, I think, are justifiably talked about. I think that they’re legitimate. I think it was great how Troy called them out. I think that was all great. Pat is notorious for knowing how to take full advantage of the rules. He’s a great quarterback because he does everything great, not just on the field, playing and everything, but he also knows how to take full advantage,” Watt said.
Patrick Mahomes Agrees He Went Over The Top on The Sideline
Irrespective of the situation, Patrick Mahomes is an excellent quarterback with top-notch skills. The Chiefs star opened up, saying that he had done too much during the sideline incident.
“I would say the only one I felt like I probably did too much was the one on the sideline where I didn’t get the flag. The ref saw it and didn’t throw a flag. I understood it immediately and know that I probably shouldn’t have done that,” Mahomes said.

The QB did receive a bit of backlash, especially from Houston fans. However, he put things to rest after addressing the issue. He also said that the referee’s did a fine job and a single call did not determine the outcome of the game.

The Chiefs played hard and are on their journey to win another Super Bowl. It’s a tough challenge ahead as they square off against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Many predicted the Detroit Lions and the Chiefs to have the final showdown this season. For now, their entire focus is going to be against the Bills in a crucial game.
