Jim Harbaugh has been arguably the hottest coaching candidate and we finally have learned exactly where he will be coaching in 2024. After coaching the national championship-winning Michigan Wolverines, Harbaugh has officially agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers to be their new coach, per Adam Schefter.

Jim Harbaugh has ties to the Chargers organization as he was the quarterback for 21 games (17 starts) from 1999-2000. However, he is officially back in the National Football League after a successful collegiate coaching job with the Michigan Wolverines since 2015.

He has coaching experience at the NFL level as he has gone 49-22-1 as an NFL coach with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14, including making it to Super Bowl XLVII against his brother’s Baltimore Ravens team in 2012. Now, with quarterback Justin Herbert and a full understanding of significant players in the 2024 NFL draft, the Los Angeles Chargers have a dominant leader to guide them back to the playoffs.

How does Jim Harbaugh change the direction of the Los Angeles Chargers?

Jim Harbaugh has proven to be an excellent coach wherever he has been and now with one of the better quarterbacks in the league, he can begin to get them back to the promised land. The Chargers have a lot of significant free agents and all their picks, including the fifth overall pick in this year’s draft.

In terms of understanding the talent, Harbaugh can work with whatever general manager he has and prepare to evaluate some talent. Obviously, the Michigan ties can include some Wolverines but he has extensive knowledge of some Big Ten talent as well.

For the Los Angeles Chargers, they get a coach who understands both offense and defense while being a huge leader who can oversee everything. While details surrounding the contract have not been released as of this writing, this is expected to be a hefty contract. This should help guide the direction for the Bolts and help them navigate a tough division with the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders going forward.

Expect Justin Herbert to play a lot better as the running game opens up more and Harbaugh is a former quarterback. With offensive coordinator Greg Roman, the ceiling for this team will be incredible and we see one of the coaching vacancies officially filled.
