Michigan Wolverines head coach and 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship winner Jim Harbaugh plans to meet with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
Speculation about Harbaugh’s departure has been present for a few years. It became so prominent that the Michigan Wolverines added a “no-shop” clause to Harbaugh’s contract extension.
The extension would have been a 10-year deal worth $125 million, according to Rapaport. Harbaugh never accepted the extension due to the fact that the clause would not allow him to talk with NFL teams while being the head coach at Michigan.
His decision to meet with the Chargers may come as a surprise to some, as Harbaugh mentioned spring practice after the title game victory. In an article from Sports Keeda, Harbaugh mentions moving spring practice dates around.
“We’re moving spring practice back,” Harbaugh said. “We usually start on Valentine’s Day, February 14, because we love football. But this year we’re going to move it back, we’re going to move it back about a month. It will be good too, we have some nice weather in the spring in Ann Arbor.”
Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh is coming off of a National Championship
Harbaugh, after being the Michigan head coach since 2015, has led his team to a 15-0 record and a national championship victory. Harbaugh has an 89-25 record with the Wolverines.
Harbaugh has failed to reach 10 wins just three times at Michigan, including the COVID year in which the team only played six games. Harbaugh has won three in a row against Michigan’s most hated rival, the Ohio State Buckeyes. He also has three straight Big Ten titles.
Harbaugh defeated legendary Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban in the Rose Bowl en route to his first national championship. The overtime thriller was an instant classic.

Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh has had success in the NFL
Harbaugh was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-2014. During that time, he went 44-19 with a trip to the Super Bowl.
Harbaugh lost the Super Bowl to his brother, John Harbaugh, who is the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. Harbaugh’s worst season as an NFL head coach was his last one, where he went 8-8. Other than that season, a Jim Harbaugh-coached NFL team never lost more than four games.

Harbaugh ran an offense that is very similar to the current Baltimore Ravens with Colin Kaepernick as the quarterback. If he were to go to the Chargers, he would have to make the offense revolve around one of the game’s most prolific passers in Justin Herbert.
The 2019 Ravens are eerily similar to the 2012 49ers
