Jalen Ramsey was traded to the Miami Dolphins for a third-round pick and tight end Hunter Long this past offseason. The six-time Pro Bowl cornerback has yet to make his team debut after tearing his meniscus in training camp and landing on injured reserve. Ramsey has been gearing up to make his return, practicing with the team in recent weeks.
ESPN‘s Adam Schefter reported on Thursday that the three-time All-Pro will make his season debut against the divisional rival New England Patriots in Week 8, tweeting:
Dolphins are planning for CB Jalen Ramsey to make his return Sunday from the knee injury that he suffered this summer, per sources. Ramsey now is expected to be back on the field three months after his knee surgery, with his Dolphins’ debut coming vs. the Patriots.

Within 15 minutes of Schefter’s tweet, Ramsey quickly responded, suggesting that the news of him making his return was not true:
So this is why I just got a crazy amount of texts. Well, this is news to me 🤔… mfs don’t care about being right, they care about being first in today’s media. That’s sad.

Ramsey followed that up by clarifying that there is a chance that he plays. However, a decision has not been made:
Full transparency, there’s a CHANCE that I can play this Sunday, but that decision genuinely isn’t made yet so that is news to me just like it is to y’all lol
I have to go through a whole process to feel GREAT enough to play. I won’t play if I feel any less than GREAT.
… I’m a glass half full type guy tho so I’m claiming a great two days for my body in hopes to turn up come Sunday 🤟🏾
I musta looked good in practice today 😂

Ramsey has been a limited participant in practice this entire week, and his status appears to be up in the air still. The Dolphins could certainly use his help on the defensive end. While they rank first in the league in nearly every offensive category, Miami ranks just 27th in opponent’s points per game and 21st in opponent’s yards. Furthermore, they have struggled against the pass as they rank 20th in both the opponent’s passing yards and passing touchdowns.
How has Jalen Ramsey performed in his NFL career?
Jalen Ramsey has been among the best cornerbacks in the NFL since the Jacksonville Jaguars made him the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Ramsey has recorded 452 total tackles, 21.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, five quarterback hits, 19 interceptions, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 92 passes defended and one defensive touchdown. In nine career postseason games, he has recorded 28 total tackles, one interception, and six passes defended.
He finished second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2016. Ramsey has made the Pro Bowl in each of the past six seasons, earning the honors for the first time in his second season. He has also been named a first-team All-Pro three times, having earned the honors in 2017, 2020, and 2021. Ramsey, who was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2019, helped the team win the Super Bowl in 2021.
While he has yet to make his team debut for the Miami Dolphins, who are currently 5-2, expectations are high that Ramsey will be able to help a struggling passing defense turn around. If the superstar cornerback is able to help the Dolphins’ defense, they could solidify their position as a true Super Bowl contender.
