The Jacksonville Jaguars could use a piece or two to improve their defense to get back to the playoffs next season. If they can’t land Danielle Hunter via free agency this offseason, it’s not the end of the world for them since there are a couple more options in the trade market.
One of them is Haason Reddick, who is coming off yet another productive season with the Philadelphia Eagles. The 29-year-old pass rusher is about to enter the final season of a three-year, $45 million contract he signed with Philadelphia as a free agent in March 2022, and the team has reportedly permitted him to seek a trade.
If the Jacksonville Jaguars are to pursue Haason Reddick, it’ll come at a hefty price, but they have the necessary assets to complete a deal, much to the benefit of both parties.
How can the Jacksonville Jaguars potentially acquire Haason Reddick?
The Philadelphia Eagles have nine picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, including three of the top 53 selections (No. 22, No. 50, and No. 53). Adding another one would help retool their roster.
Philadelphia went on record to say that they would rather keep Haason Reddick, but they would trade him if someone offered them a good deal. By the looks of it, Philadelphia will listen to offers from the Jacksonville Jaguars if the No. 17 pick is added to a potential deal.
Once this happens, the Philadelphia Eagles can use the pick to select either Jared Verse from Florida State, Byron Murphy II from Texas, or Laiatu Latu from UCLA to replace Reddick.
The Jacksonville Jaguars need someone like Haason Reddick
Haason Reddick deserves to get paid because he has recorded double-digit sacks for the fourth consecutive season. In 2023, the Temple product had 11 sacks, 38 combined tackles (29 solo), 13 of which were for a loss, and one pass defended in 17 regular-season games.
Adding another veteran like Reddick alongside Josh Allen and Travon Walker would make the Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense much stronger, especially in the pass rush.
With the Jacksonville Jaguars having roughly $28 million in cap space, they could accommodate Haason Reddick’s base salary of $14.25 million ($21.88 cap hit) in 2024.
