The Ohio State Buckeyes for the 2025 college football season have a lot of decide between now and there first game on August 31 against the Texas Longhorns. It will be a rematch of the college football playoff semifinals between the two teams.

Arch Manning will be the starting quarterback for Texas, but it is undecided who will be the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes. It will be a major battle throughout the summer as well. This will be the fourth straight season that Ohio State will have a different starting quarterback for head coach Ryan Day.
Ohio State Buckeyes Insider Provides Critical Update On the Quarterback Battle

Cameron Teague Robinson, a writer for The Athletic, went in depth on the position battles in camp. For quarterback, he has Julian Sayin as the starter for the Buckeyes and Lincoln Keinholz as the backup quarterback. Tavien St. Clair will most likely be the third quarterback on the depth chart.
Robinson said about this battle,
“Sayin has the slight lead, but this competition is going to come down to preseason camp, and it’ll be the months between now and then. Last year, Will Howard left the spring game with a slight lead, but his work in May, June and July put him in a position to increase the gap ahead of Devin Brown quickly in camp. That has to be the focus of Kienholz and Sayin, duplicating how Howard prepared for camp and trying to shut the door in August.
Ohio State needs a starting quarterback for the Texas game, it can’t still have a competition like it did in 2023 between Kyle McCord and Brown. A top-10 matchup is up first for the Buckeyes, and Sayin and Kienholz need to be ready.”
It is not a surprise that this quarterback battle will go into the summer. Hopefully Ohio State will have a true starter by the time the season opener rolls around against Texas. No matter who wins the job, they will be throwing passes to the best wide receiver in the country, Jeremiah Smith also.
