The Indianapolis Colts narrowly defeated the Tennessee Titans this past Sunday, 20-17, at Nissan Stadium. The Colts found a way to win this game because, on both sides of the ball, it was a case of just doing enough to get that win. The defense limited the Titans’ offense and got the stops they needed, while the offense clicked well and connected when it needed to.
It wasn’t a pretty win for the Colts, but they improved to 3-3 on the season overall. They are 1-2 in the AFC South and 2-2 in the AFC. With Sunday’s games wrapped up and done, let’s go over the Colts’ performance, what went right, what went wrong, and everything else you need to know.
Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Joe Flacco Continues To Ball Out While Anthony Richardson Is Out
Joe Flacco continues to ball out while Anthony Richardson deals with an oblique injury. Boy did he control Sunday’s game against the Titans. Flacco completed 22-of-38 passing for 189 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the 20-17 victory. He started red-hot, marching the Colts down the field for an opening touchdown. Not only did he start with a bang he also produced the game-winning drive in the fourth quarter to help win the Colts the game and go out with a bang.
The 39-year-old veteran quarterback joined the Indianapolis Colts over the offseason and signed a one-year contract. Since then in his four appearances, he’s 71 of 108 passing for 716 yards and 7 touchdowns with one interception, and has been sacked only six times. Anthony Richardson on the other hand, while not playing very often is 39-of-77 for 654 yards, three touchdowns, and six interceptions, while getting sacked four times. He also adds his legs unlike Flacco he’s rushed 21 times for 141 yards and a touchdown as well.
How Else Did The Colts Find Ways To Win This Game Against The Tennessee Titans?
The credit doesn’t all go to Joe Flacco the rest of the Indianapolis offense was able to keep drives alive. This unit kept many drives alive throughout the game, and were 7-for-15 on third-down conversions and 1-of-1 on fourth downs which means they were able to run eleven more plays than the Titans and able to close out the game. The Colts were also able to tie in the turnover battle after Joe Flacco threw an early interception, safety Julian Blackmon came up with a huge interception of his own late in the game to get the ball back when it counted.
However, the Colts weren’t able to score any points off of it, but it came late in the fourth quarter with the Colts up by only three points, and once Tennessee got the ball back there were under four minutes left on the clock. The thing that won this game was when Joe Flacco connected with Michael Pittman Jr on the last possession giving the Colts a fresh set of downs and allowing them to run out the clock. The Titans got the ball back but not with enough time just twelve seconds left and pushed back to their side of the field.
The Colts are back at home next week for a matchup against the struggling Miami Dolphins. Just like the Titans, the Dolphins will be fresh off of a bye-week. If you want to keep up with everything going on around the NFL go to GridIronHeroics.com and follow me on X(Twitter)@Crain_Sports1
