Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson seemingly injured himself on Sunday during their Week 4 match against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was hit by Steelers defensive backs Minkah Fitzpatrick and Deshon Elliott on a 16-yard run, leaving the field afterwards.
Richardson returned two plays later, but the Colts took him out when they saw he couldn’t accelerate like he usually does. He tried to return to the game after being checked in the locker room, but the team decided he should sit the rest of the game out.
Following the injury, fans began to criticize Richardson for being “injury-prone.”On Wednesday, Anthony Richardson responded to the fans, clapping back at their rather nasty criticism.

“It’s football,” Richardson said. “I’m pretty sure if they got out of the house and came out here and got hit by somebody that was running 20-plus miles per hour every week, you know, I’m pretty sure they would be sore and dealing with injuries as well.”
He added, “You know, people are gonna talk. That’s what people do. So, I’m not necessarily worried about it. Just trying to focus on getting better day by day.”
Reserve quarterback Joe Flacco filled in for Richardson, helping the Colts improve their record to 2-2 after beating the previously undefeated Steelers with a final score of 27-24.

Anthony Richardson’s injury history
Anthony Richardson has had his fair share of injuries in his football career. In his rookie season last year, he suffered a concussion during their Week 2 game against the Houston Texans, not medically cleared to play the following week.
He was able to return in Week 4, then a grade three AC joint sprain on his throwing shoulder he suffered in Week 5 caused him to miss the remainder of that season.
Prior to going pro, Anthony Richardson had one major and two minor injuries as a Florida Gator. In 2021, he had a hamstring strain and a concussion before suffering a meniscus tear.
His status for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars is questionable. Following his injury against the Steelers last Sunday, the quarterback is considered day-to-day with oblique and abdominal strains.
The fans are seemingly justified with their criticism of Anthony Richardson as his most recent injury will render him possibly unavailable in the next game. If the Indianapolis Colts do declare him to be inactive, the game against the Jaguars will be the first NFL game he misses this season.
