The Georgia Bulldogs won the SEC title last season. They were the number two seed in the college football playoffs before faltering against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Georgia was the number two seed and got a first round bye, but the Bulldogs went one-and-done. Georgia has not been back in the title game since going back-to-back in 2021 and in 2022. It is going to be interesting to see if the Bulldogs can get back during the 2025 college football season. They have one of the best programs in college football under head coach Kirby Smart. Is he the best coach in college football?
ESPN Ranks Georgia Bulldogs Kirby Smart As Top Head Coach In the Country
Different college football writers for ESPN created a potential ranking for who are the top 10 head coaches are in the sport of college football. To no surprise, Smart is the top head coach in the nation for now. He has a 105-19 record with the program. He also received 119 points with this poll and received 11-of-12 first place votes.
One college football analyst was asked will Smart be the top head coach in the college football landscape at this time next year? They said,
“With more first-round NFL draft picks (20) than losses (19) in his nine seasons as coach of his alma mater and back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022, it’s hard to argue it could be anyone other than Smart with Nick Saban retired. I guess if Ryan Day guided Ohio State to a second straight national title or Dabo Swinney captured his third at Clemson this season, you could make the case they’re better. I don’t think Georgia’s program is going to slip anytime soon. — Mark Schlabach”
Georgia has produced a lot of talent to the NFL over the years under Smart. They keep also landing top recruits in the country year-after-year. The Bulldogs will be one of the favorites to win the SEC Conference this season along with the Texas Longhorns.
Even though some players with the Bulldogs have gotten into trouble, Georgia has always had depth on this football team under Smart. If he were to win another national title during the 2025 college football season, there is no doubt that he will be the number one ranked coach in the sport once again before the 2026 college football season begins.
