Houston Texans Trying To Become Second Team To Finish With Winning Record With +30000 Odds Or Worse

The NFL preseason odds have been released, and according to DraftKings.com, the Houston Texans have the longest odds at  + 30000 to win Super Bowl LVII.

Of the 21 teams with a 500-1 rating before the Super Bowl or worse since 1977, only one—the 1978 Seattle Seahawks—ended up with a winning record. This season also marks the franchise’s first successful season for the Seahawks, according to Oddseeker.com.

This season the Houston Texans will try to become the second franchise to achieve that feat of finishing with a winning record, as they are only projected to win 4.5 games.

The Houston Texans traded away their franchise quarterback this off-season.

After days of deliberation and meeting with several potential teams, the former Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson decided to renounce his no-trade clause to join the Cleveland Browns earlier this year. Once Watson said where he wanted to go, the Texans and Browns came up with a trade package that benefitted both franchises, one of the biggest in league history.

The Texans sent Deshaun Watson and a 2024 sixth-round pick to the Browns in exchange for first-round picks in 2022, 2023, and 2024 along with a 2023 third-rounder and 2022 2024 fourth-round selections.  After the trade was completed, the Browns signed  Watson to a new five-year, $230 million deal that is fully guaranteed, according to ESPN.

“We spent a tremendous amount of time exploring and investigating the opportunity to trade for Deshaun Watson. We are acutely aware and empathetic to the highly personal sentiments expressed about this decision. Our team’s comprehensive evaluation process was of utmost importance due to the sensitive nature of his situation and the complex factors involved. We also understand there are still some legal proceedings that are ongoing, and we will respect due process. It was pivotal that we, along with Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski, meet with Deshaun to have a straightforward dialogue, discuss our priorities, and hear directly from him on how he wants to approach his career on and off the field. He was humble, sincere, and candid. In our conversations, Deshaun detailed his commitment to leading our team; he understands and embraces the hard work needed to build his name both in the community and on the field. Those in-depth conversations, the extensive evaluation process, his dedication to being a great teammate, and devotion to helping others within the NFL, within the community, and through his charitable initiatives provided the foundation for us to pursue Deshaun. We are confident in Deshaun and excited about moving forward with him as our quarterback and supporting his genuine and determined efforts.” – Dee and Jimmy Haslam on Watson.

Some defensive lineman to return to the field for final preseason game against 49ers

Before the Houston Texans take on the San Francisco 49ers Thursday night at 8:15 EST , it was announced that they will be adding some depth to their defensive line, according to head coach Lovie Smith.

“We’ve known that we’ve had good depth, but you can never have too many good defensive linemen,” Smith said. “Most times it’s going to come down to them finishing, being able to rush. Their best rush is at the end of the game. Both of our games we’ve gotten that. This week some of the guys that haven’t played as much. Maliek Collins will play this week. Jerry Hughes will, so anxious to see those guys play, too.”

“Yeah, we have a set number, but numbers are always flexible a little bit,” Smith said. “I’ll talk gameday more than just keeping. Gameday most of the time, we’re going to dress at least eight defensive linemen. We’re going to dress at least six linebackers. From there, the numbers get a little bit flexible.”
