The Minnesota Vikings have made a trade for the 2024 NFL Draft two months before they’re set to select a pick. The Vikings appear to be aggressively planning to find a quarterback in this year’s draft.
The Minnesota Vikings lost Kirk Cousins this week
The Vikings are in need of a franchise quarterback after losing Kirk Cousins in free agency this week. Cousins signed a four-year deal worth $180 million with the Atlanta Falcons. With Cousins gone, the Vikings signed former first-round pick Sam Darnold. Darnold is thought to be a temporary fix for the 2024 season.
The Vikings made a move on Friday that could help them land their next franchise quarterback.
The Houston Texans are sending Minnesota a first-round pick
Per Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Vikings swapped draft picks with the Houston Texans. The Vikings received the No. 23 and No. 232 picks from Houston. The Vikings will send Houston picks No. 42, Mo. 188, and a second-round pick in 2025.
Rapoport suggests the Vikings could be using the same formula the Eagles used when they moved up to draft Carson Wentz.
This reminds me of the #Eagles moving up in the first round of the NFL Draft in 2016. Which helped them target a QB. Will the #Vikings use the ammo for a QB? https://t.co/s1Lor4n15N

The Vikings could trade again to select a top QB
The Texans needed the draft capital after trading up to select Will Anderson Jr. in last year’s draft. The Vikings now own the No. 11 and No. 23 picks in this year’s first round. They can potentially pair those picks together to trade into the top ten and draft a top quarterback prospect.
One hiccup in the plan is that several teams want to draft a quarterback this year. The Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders, and Denver Broncos are some of the teams that reportedly want a quarterback in this year’s draft.
How much more will Minnesota have to give up to land the quarterback they want?
