The Houston Texans play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday afternoon, 3:30 P.M. CT. to be exact, for the Divisional Round of the playoffs. For Houston to have a chance against Kansas City, the offensive line must win the battle at the line of scrimmage. The offensive line must provide holes for Joe Mixon in the running game and give C.J. Stroud plenty of time to throw in the passing game.
The biggest storyline surrounding the Texans’ offensive line is who will start at right guard since both of their top two options are banged up. Highlighting their banged-up right guard position is their veteran interior lineman.
The Houston Texans’ Super Bowl Champion hasn’t played since Week 16
Shaq Mason suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain during the opening drive in Week 16 against the Kansas City Chiefs. As a result, Mason did not participate in the last three weeks of practice and did not play in the previous three games to recover from his MCL sprain, which typically carries a three-to-four-week recovery time. The Texans turned to Kendrick Green for the rest of Week 16 and Week 17, while Juice Scruggs got the nod in Week 18 and the Wild Card Round, where he suffered an ankle injury.
Mason and Scruggs missed Tuesday’s practice, were upgraded to limited participants on Wednesday, then upgraded to full participants on Thursday, and didn’t carry an official injury designation for Saturday afternoon, meaning both players will play. Also, both players split first-team reps at right guard, and head coach DeMeco Ryans didn’t commit to either one starting during the week.

Texans veteran lineman will return to starting lineup after missing last three games
According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2, the Houston Texans will start Shaq Mason at right guard, while the expectation is for Juice Scruggs to serve as the backup against the Kansas City Chiefs. After missing the past three games with a Grade 2 MCL sprain, Mason is back in the starting lineup. He hopes to prove that he is still a starting-caliber interior offensive lineman in this league and not a cap casualty.
