CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans are off to a great start this season. While there’s the matter of keeping their momentum going on, the issue of cap space will be there as the season progresses. For this reason, the front office may have to move veteran wide receiver Robert Woods to another team.
Woods is eager to carve out his role in the Texans’ passing game this season. As a seasoned player at 32, Woods is the veteran presence among a talented group of receivers, including Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell. Despite battling injuries last season, he still managed 40 receptions for 426 yards and one touchdown in 14 games.
Woods emphasizes his commitment to health and productivity this year. He aims to find his space within the offense, focusing on creating separation and making impactful plays when called upon. His experience is invaluable, and Stroud praises him as a great mentor and leader, highlighting Woods’ work ethic and family values.
Although Woods’ contract is on the higher side, his skills and mentorship are significant assets to the team. He has demonstrated his ability to perform, particularly during preseason practices, showcasing his talent in red-zone drills. Woods acknowledges the competitive atmosphere in the receiver room, where every player is striving to secure their spot on the roster.
Houston Texans’ Predicted To Trade Veteran Wide Receiver Robert Woods
In the event Woods’ long-term vision don’t align with that of the team, the front office can always move him to clear cap space. According to an NFL analysis by Kristopher Knox for Bleacher Report, the Los Angeles Rams and New York Jets are the two most ideal landing spots right now.
“The Rams are the most logical landing spot for Woods for a couple of reasons. For one, they’re without their top two receivers and could be for some time. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Nacua could be out until Week 9. Kupp is expected to miss extended time.
Secondly, Los Angeles is familiar with Woods, who previously spent five seasons with the franchise.
If the Jets are eager to put more talent around quarterback Aaron Rodgers, they might also consider acquiring Woods. He’s a proven veteran with some ties to New York’s coaching staff.”
Given their deep roster of receivers, including Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell. Woods, there’s a good chance Woods will end up in another team soon. If this happens, a trade to the New York Jets in exchange for a draft pick will be a likely scenario next to the Los Angeles Rams.
While Woods brings experience and versatility, the Texans might benefit from freeing up salary space and enhancing their draft capital. Ultimately, exploring trade options could be a strategic move for the team.
