The Houston Texans have a bright future after the incredible 2023 season they just enjoyed. Under the leadership of DeMeco Ryans and the solid quarterback play by CJ Stroud, it’s hard to imagine the team’s trajectory going anywhere but upward.
However, they know better than anyone that it would take a lot more than just a potent offense to make it to the Super Bowl. Since they play in the AFC, they will have to face a lot of talented offensive powerhouses that feature some of the best quarterbacks in the league.
To increase their chances of making the Super Bowl, they need to focus on bolstering their team to prevent these powerhouse offenses from doing whatever they want on the passing game.
Houston Texans look to bolster pass defense during free agency, draft
NFL insider John McClain reported that the team is eager to bolster their defense to specifically target the passing games of teams across the AFC:
In FA and the draft, the Texans will pursue defense cause they face Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Dak Prescott, Aaron Rodgers, Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff, Jordan Love, Caleb Williams (Bears) and Trevor Lawrence, Anthony Richardson and Will Levis in the AFC South.

It’s understandable why the Houston Texans want to embellish their defense even further. In their very own division, they have to contend with a talented young QB in Trevor Lawrence, who finished last season with 4016 passing yards and 21 TDs.
The gauntlet of QBs they also have to take down to get to the Super Bowl doesn’t get any easier as well. Patrick Mahomes has built a dynasty in Kansas City; Lamar Jackson is a dynamic QB who can run and pass; Josh Allen has a cannon for an arm; Tua Tagovailoa’s left-handed play style can be tough to contain; Aaron Rodgers is still a great QB despite the brutal injury he sustained.
Of course, defense isn’t everything in the NFL, and the Texans are reportedly interested in bringing over Tony Pollard from their NFC neighbors, the Dallas Cowboys. Hopefully, they get to upgrade their defense to make a real push for the Lombardi in 2024.
