Following the 2021 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers traded All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders after he refused to sign a contract extension with the team. He also informed the Packers that he would not play for them while on the franchise tag. The fact that general manager Brian Gutekunst got a first and second round pick for a player that everyone knew would not play for Green Bay again is quite the achievement.
Of course, everyone knew that 2021 was going to be Adams’ last year in Green Bay. Prior to the season, he and Aaron Rodgers shared an image from the Chicago Bulls documentary, “The Last Dance,” indicating that one or both of them would not return to the team in 2022.
In order to replace Adams, and to revitalize their wide receiver room, the Packers drafted three wide receivers, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Did Not Work with His Rookie Wide Receivers in the Offseason

In addition to adding three wide receivers in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Packers also signed free agent Sammy Watkins to help fill the void left by Adams. Unfortunately, none of the new wide receivers got a chance to really work with Rodgers until training camp that year.
At that time, Rodgers was still in the midst of his highly publicized feud with Green Bay’s front office. He had been angry with them since 2020 when the team traded up in the first round to take Jordan Love.
The drop-off in offensive production from 2021 to 2022 was, in a word, concerning. Rodgers had won his fourth NFL MVP Award while completing 68.9% of his passes for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 111.9 passer rating in 2021. The Packers went 13-4 that year.
In 2022, Green Bay finished 8-9 while Rodgers completed 64.6% of his passes for 3,695 yards, 26 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a 91.1 passer rating.
Of course, he was traded by the Packers himself following that season, and the young group of wide receivers were able to start playing with the quarterback who had guided them through their first few weeks and months as professionals: Jordan Love.
NFL Analyst Says the Green Bay Packers Are Not Going to Trade Romeo Doubs

Of the three wide receivers that the Packers drafted in 2022, Watson and Doubs are the two that remain with the team. And now that speculation indicates that he is going to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency, some wonder if he might ask the team to get him one of his former wide receivers from Green Bay.
After all, the Steelers just traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, so there is room for one more pass catcher on their roster.
And, of the two remaining players that caught passes from Rodgers in 2022 on Green Bay’s roster, Doubs is the only one who will be healthy enough to play in 2025. He also has had his own mini-drama with the team, having been suspended for one game last season for conduct detrimental to the team.
But ESPN’s Peter Schrager says that such a move is very unlikely to happen”
Also from @PSchrags, the Green Bay Packers are unlikely to trade Romeo Doubs to the Steelers.
Peter was speaking about how he had dinner with Coach LaFleur at the draft, and said that coach is very happy with the current wide receiver room.

“I’m here to tell you, LaFleur said, ‘Romeo Doubs is great in our building.’ I don’t think one of those Packers receivers is going to be shipped just to make Rodgers happy. I think that is just an assumption online. The Packers are really happy with their young wide receiver group, and they add Matthew Golden. They’re thrilled with what they got.”
Doubs is entering the final year of his rookie contract, coming off a season in which he caught 46 passes for 601 yards and four touchdowns.
During his second season, he became just one of just three wide receivers in Packers history to have 100 receptions, 1,000 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns through their first two years:
Romeo Doubs | Sterling Sharpe | James Lofton | |
Receptions | 101 | 145 | 100 |
Receiving Yards | 1,099 | 2,214 | 1,786 |
Touchdowns | 11 | 13 | 10 |
As one can see, the other two, Sterling Sharpe and James Lofton, are in the Hall of Fame.
