After the 2021 NFL season that saw Aaron Rodgers win his fourth NFL MVP Award and Davante Adams set franchise records for receptions in a season (123) and receiving yards (1,553), the Green Bay Packers faced some difficult decisions. As Adams finished his contract with Green Bay at the conclusion of that season, the Packers decided to put the franchise tag on him.
Unwilling to play on the tag and dissatisfied with the contract offers the front office extended to him, Adams asked for a trade. The Packers granted his request and sent him to the Las Vegas Raiders for a first and second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
But they then faced the tall task of replacing him on their roster.
The Green Bay Packers Drafted 3 Wide Receivers in the 2022 NFL Draft
Of course, there are very few players who could replace a wide receiver of Adams’ caliber by himself. In response to losing one of the best pass catchers in franchise history, the Packers used three of their picks in the 2022 NFL Draft on wide receivers.
They took Christian Watson in the second round, Romeo Doubs in the fourth round, and Samori Toure in the seventh round.
Of course, Rodgers was not around in the offseason much as he had frustrations with Green Bay’s front office. This left his backup, Jordan Love, with the responsibility of getting the new young wide receivers up to speed.
When Rodgers did show up for training camp, he liked what he saw from the young rookies, particularly Toure.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Once Had High Praise for Samori Toure
As NFL fans are well-aware, Rodgers is a frequent guest on the popular Pat McAfee Show, and has been for years. During the sumer of 2022, he appeared on the show to discuss some growing pains that the young wide receivers might face during training camp, but did take a moment to specifically give Toure a shoutout:

“That seventh-round pick has some stuff to him,” Rodgers said of Toure.
Toure did make 11 appearances in 2022 but was not used much. He had five receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown as a rookie.
Last season, he had eight receptions for 78 yards all season long, again in 11 appearances.
The Green Bay Packers Release Samori Toure
With the rosters being trimmed to 53 players on Tuesday, one of the players that Green bay decided to let go was Toure, according to multiple reports:
Can confirm #Packers are releasing WR Samori Toure, as @AdamSchefter said. Simply a numbers game for the 2022 seventh-round pick, buried at a very deep position.

The Packers just have too many good quality wide receivers ahead of Toure. Watson and Doubs were joined by standouts Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks last season, as well as Bo Melton and Malik Heath.
Toure does have a lot of talent and should not have a problem landing on a practice squad, whether it be in Green Bay or elsewhere.
